Six unmissable Manchester beer gardens to soak up the sun in this summer

There are very few better places to have a lager in the sun than a beer garden in Manchester. With that being said, here is a list of five simply sensational spots where you can enjoy a crisp pint in the sun around the city.

Aside from Manchester’s gig venues, the humble pub has been a staple in the city centre since its inception. It’s a place where minds go to talk sport, politics, personal relations – but more importantly – get absolutely trollied.

But whilst there is an abundance of pubs in Manchester, there definitely aren’t as many beer gardens knocking about. The reason being? Well – it’s a rarity the sun is ever shining.

But when it is – Manchester is a thing of beauty. And what better way to celebrate that beauty than a drink in the sun’s bask? So, with this, Out in Manchester brings you six of the best beer gardens scattered around the city.

Terrace NQ

  • Address: 43 Thomas St, Manchester M4 1NA

Why have one beer garden when you can have three? Situated in the heart of the Northern Quarter, Terrace is one of Manchester’s most popular bars, day and night – and a big part of that is the fantastic outdoor seating.

The rooftop beer garden is our personal favourite. With a bar and toilets situated on the top of the building, you can take day sessions well into the night without barely moving a muscle.

Drink prices are a little steep, with an average of around £5 a pint – but that’s becoming the new norm around the city these days.

Dukes 92

Dukes 92, admittedly, is always rammed. But that being said – there’s a reason for that.

Situated with lovely views of Manchester’s canal, Dukes is a sun-kissed hotspot, which, due to its open nature, gets to bask in the rays of the rare Manchester beams all day when they occur.

Their eclectic menu offers classic seasonal dishes, handpicked wines, stunning cocktails and, most importantly – beers. It’s a superb place to sink a pint and has a deserved spot on our list.

Sinclair’s Oyster Bar

  • Address: 2 Cathedral Gates, Manchester M3 1SW

If you’re a sucker for a cheap pint – which we most certainly are – Sinclair’s Oyster Bar is for you.

Dating back to 1720, it boasts a cosy interior with dark wood and fireplaces, complemented by a spacious beer garden — perfect for a pint (or twelve), particularly when the cheapest sets you back a mere £3.70.

The only issue is, the views aren’t too spectacular – unless you’re a fan of gazing into the picturesque intensity of the Manchester Arndale.

Rain Bar

Rain Bar in Manchester boasts one of the city’s premier beer gardens, situated along the Rochdale Canal.

Nestled near Oxford Road, this former warehouse and umbrella factory turned bar is the perfect place for an outdoor beer. It boasts a wide selection of ales, ciders and lagers, with a fantastic range of sunny seating outdoors.

Whether you’re enjoying a sunny afternoon or a cool evening, Rain Bar’s beer garden offers a sensational experience for anyone who needs their thirst quenching.

The Oast House

  • Address: The Avenue Courtyard, Manchester M3 3AY

Again, if the sun is shining, The Oast House will be absolutely packed with pint enjoyers – once again, for good reason.

Step into the extensive outdoor seating in the heart of Spinningfields, which features live music, a great booze selection, and a fabulous atmosphere when the sun is shining.

That being said, you’ll have to be eagle-eyed – or the early bird – if you want to get a prime seat. It’s worth asking your boss if you can finish early to run here if there’s even a flicker of sunlight over the city.

Stevenson Square

  • Address: Stevenson Square, Manchester, M1 1FB

Last but not least, Stevenson Square has to be involved – albeit as a whole and not individual bars.

The square is home to a diverse array of bars and pubs, making it a popular destination for nightlife. Notable venues include Flok, Public, and the infamous Quarter House.

It’s simply a sun trap, and with an abundance of outdoor seating, Mancunians flock here in their masses in their conquest for a delicious sip of sweet nectar.
